Hotel Okura Kyoto is a full-service hotel with a direct underground connection from Exit 3 of Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station on the Tozai subway line. Its flagship grand banquet hall, Gyouun, accommodates up to 1,500 guests in theater-style seating, making it one of Kyoto’s largest hotel event venues. Tips Before You Visit

Rain-Proof Underground Access

Exit 3 of Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station connects directly underground to the hotel’s B2F, so no umbrella is needed even on rainy days. This is particularly helpful during Kyoto’s rainy season and afternoon showers.

Traffic Restrictions During Gion Matsuri

In July, the Yamahoko Junko parade during Gion Matsuri triggers large-scale road closures around Oike-dori and Karasuma-dori. Taxis will face significant detours during this period. Plan on using the Tozai Line subway whenever possible.

Advance Dining Reservations in Riverside Season

From May to September, restaurants along the Kamogawa River fill up quickly due to the popular riverside dining season (kawayuka). Book restaurant reservations well in advance once your event attendance is confirmed.

Evening Walks Along the Kamogawa and Takase River

The Kamogawa riverbank is approximately a 5-minute walk from the hotel, and the Takase River and Kiyamachi area are also within easy walking distance—ideal spots for a relaxing stroll after your event.

Convenience Stores and ATMs

Several convenience stores are located along Oike-dori and Kiyamachi-dori. If you need cash, prepare it in advance as some smaller local establishments may not accept credit cards.

Getting from Kyoto Station

From Kyoto Station, take the Karasuma Subway Line to Karasuma-Oike, then transfer to the Tozai Line to Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station (total approx. 10 min). Taxis take about 15 minutes but queues can be long during busy periods, so the subway is the more reliable option.
